Rumus Simple Present Tense dan Contoh Soalnya Dalam TOEFL

A. Penggunaan Kalimat

1. Untuk menyatakan aktivitas sehari-hari atau kebiasaan sehari-hari (habitual action)

Contoh:

He prays at the mosque everyday.

I always get up at 4 o’clock.

2. Untuk menyatakan kebenaran umum (general truth)

Contoh:

A day has 24 hours.

The sun rises in the east.

B. Pola Kalimat

- Menggunakan Verb

Catatan: S = Subject (Subjek)
V1 = Verb 1 (Kata kerja infinitive (bentuk pertama)
O = Object (Objek)
C= Complement (Pelengkap).

Contoh dalam kalimat:

- Menggunakan To Be

Catatan: S = Subject (Subjek) 

To Be = is/am/are 

C= Complement (Pelengkap).

Contoh keterangan waktu dalam Simple Present Tense: 

always = selalu 

usually = biasanya 

generally = biasanya 

sometimes = kadang-kadang 

occasionally = kadang-kadang 

seldom = jarang 

ever = pernah 

never = tidak pernah 

once a day = sekali sehari 

once a week = sekali seminggu 

once a month = sekali sebulan 

twice a week = dua kali seminggu 

on Friday = pada hari Jumat 

every second = setiap detik 

everyday = setiap hari 

every week = setiap minggu 

at ten o’clock = pada pukul sepuluh 

dst.

D. Catatan 

1. Dalam kalimat + , jika subjeknya adalah orang ketiga tunggal (He, She, It), singular noun (contoh: the machine, the museum, dll), uncountable noun (contoh: water, air, dll), dan abstract noun (contoh: intelligence, happiness, dll) ditambahkan imbuhan –s atau –es pada Verb 1. 

Sebagai contoh: 

She studies. 

The museum opens.

2. Ketentuan penambahan imbuhan –s/es dalam Verb 1 sebagai berikut: 

1. Imbuhan –es ditambahkan pada Verb 1 yang berakhiran –sh, -ch, -s, -z, dan –x.
   Sebagai contoh:
   wash - washes
   watch – watches
   discuss – discusses
   fix – fixes
2. Apabila Verb 1 berakhiran dengan huruf ‘y’ dan didahului huruf konsonan, maka huruf ‘y’ berubah menjadi ‘i’ lalu ditambahkan imbuhan ‘-es’.
   Sebagai contoh:
   cry – cries
   fly - flies
3. Apabila Verb 1 berakhiran dengan huruf ‘y’ dan didahului huruf vokal, maka langusng ditambahkan imbuhan ‘-s’ saja.
   Sebagai contoh:
   buy – buys
   play – plays
   say – says

Tips: - Hapalkan formula ketentuan penambahan imbuhan –es dalam Verb 1 saja! - Tambahkan imbuhan –s dalam Verb 1 yang tidak mengikuti formula ketentuan penambahan imbuhan –es dalam Verb 1.
